The Blogiversary begins

One year ago today, I started the Practicing Intentional Gratitude blog on blogger. I didn’t write and publish my first post until February 1, so I get to celebrate a three-day-long blogiversary. But I want to take a moment to look over the last year. Since January 30 of last year…

  • My children both entered the realm of teenager-hood
  • I said farewell to two beloved pets, one which died and the other which was adopted into a new home
  • I started doing physical therapy three times a week, and continued through the year
  • I survived a class with an absolutely awful professor (but lost my 4.0 GPA in grad school)
  • I changed my job from data analysis in network performance metrics to data analysis in finance / revenue
  • I decided that I no longer wanted to live in a dead marriage, and I told my then-husband and children this
  • I underwent two MRIs
  • I was diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff in my right shoulder, along with multi-directional instability
  • I moved into my own apartment
  • I moved to a different church, joined the choir, and started serving liturgically
  • I traveled to Canada and drove back home all by myself
  • I had surgery on my shoulder
  • My best friend, who had supported me long-distance for ten years, told me he loves me
  • I told him I love him, too
  • I set up a sub-chapter S corporation
  • I bought a car, all by myself
  • My orthopedist referred me to a physiatrist, who told me that I have hereditary hypermobility in almost all of my joints (translation: double-jointed), which means that I have to intentionally and carefully exercise my joints for the rest of my life
  • For the first time ever, I bought a pair of shoes because I thought they were cute
  • My daughter and I adopted a twelve-year-old kitty from the SPCA
  • The hand specialist diagnosed me with dystonia in both thumb joints
  • I underwent injections into every joint between the vertebrae in my neck (that’s 12 shots, plus the three or four random ones for local anaesthetic)
  • My orthopedist told me that I have tendonitis in my knee, along with patello-femoral syndrome, and wrote a scrip for physical therapy on my knee along with my upper body
  • I woke up on Christmas morning alone in my home for the first time in my life
  • My best friend asked me to marry him
  • I said yes
  • We planned two trips to Canada for me, in February and in March, and trips for him in May and August
  • I bought long underwear for the first time since I was eleven years old
  • I transferred back into the team I’d left last January, but with nobody to take over my current job responsibilities, haven’t been able to move completely yet
  • I got that S-corporation going, with a tax ID number, a bank account, and a customer
  • I found a home for us to live in
  • I made an offer on that home, and it was accepted, and now I’m under contract to buy a house
  • We set a closing date for February 27, and a moving date of March 7
  • My fiance began making plans to come down for a visit to help me move in
  • I signed up for Weight Watchers, after a couple-year hiatus
  • … and I started celebrating my blogiversary!

I wish you all a blessed year, just as mine has been.  There have been pain, frustration, anger, and stress; there have also been joy, love, delight, and great hope.  It has been a fertile year, and I’m looking forward to the next.
